Each day, her mother wrote in a recent blog post, Jordyn Boucher rides a little bit further on her bicycle. now, her family hopes locals will take a ride of their own, to help Jordyn and children like her as they battle life-threatening diseases.

The 9-year-old Brentwood girl’s story has captured the hearts of many around the Seacoast as she has coped with the leukemia she was first diagnosed with when just 15 months old, and the Seacoast community has rallied to her cause since the cancer returned last September. on Saturday, May 8, motorcyclists will gather at the Rochester Harley-Davidson dealer for “Jordyn’s Ride,” an 80-mile loop through the Lakes Region. Half the money raised will go toward medical funds that may be needed in the future for Jordyn and the other half toward a fund for families with children dealing with diseases like Jordyn’s.

Her stepfather, Sontaya Sukduang, said the family has continued to put together the ride with assistance from others for the fifth year, taking it over after Jordyn’s uncle, Joe Chalifour, died. about 100 riders typically come out for the trip, and Sukduang said he hopes that number will grow substantially this year.

Live music will be provided by the Adam Joel Band. there will be a raffle for Red Sox-Yankees tickets and ZZ top tickets, as well as a free cookout.

If she’s feeling up to it, Jordyn may be waiting at some point along the motorcycle route with a sign to thank those who are riding on her behalf, Sukduang said.

Sukduang, who is staying at home with 12-year-old stepdaughter Taylor in new Hampshire while his wife Tracey and Jordyn are at St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., said Jordyn’s leukemia still appears to be in remission and a recent spate of blood tests performed at the hospital have still shown only donor cells, a sign the cancer is not returning.

“The doctors said that everything is good at the 100-day mark,” Sukduang said, referring to the 100 days after Jordyn received a stem cell transplant from her father, Brian Boucher, when doctors at the hospital can begin considering allowing recovering children to go home. “Hopefully, they’ll be coming home within the end of next week.”

Tracey Sukduang has maintained a blog at www.hope4jordyn.blogspot.com detailing Jordyn’s progress. on Sunday, she wrote that Jordyn was eating without the aid of a tube and is gaining strength by the day.

“We are so proud of her for all her strong will to have come so far. she is amazing in every way possible!” Tracey wrote.

Sukduang said the family is eagerly awaiting the homecoming that has been slightly delayed beyond next week, and that no one’s looking forward to it as much as Jordyn herself, saying with a laugh that she had been packing for the past three weeks. Jordyn will be home for two to three weeks, he said.

“It’s another step forward with Jordyn. It’s just an awesome feeling to see the support of the public and community,” said Sukduang, adding he can’t describe in words just how much support family, friends and strangers have offered. “It’s going to be an amazing day.”
