Gloucester motorcyclist seriously injured in Route 17 wreck

— a motorcyclist was seriously injured Monday afternoon when a vehicle pulled in front of him on Route 17, during rush-hour traffic.

Alan Fagley, 47, who lives on Quail Court, was northbound on Route 17 on a 2005 Harley-Davidson Sportster about 5 p.m. when a 2005 Toyota RAV 4 pulled out in front of him at the T.C. Walker Road intersection, said Sgt. Greg Mathias of the Virginia State Police. Sandra Coltrain, 68, of Contesse Drive, was attempting to travel across the northbound lanes of the highway to turn south.

Fagley struck the side of Coltrain’s vehicle. He was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News where he was in serious condition, Mathias said. Neither alcohol nor speed was a factor in the accident and charges are pending against Coltrain, he said.

Traffic was diverted around the accident scene for about 10 to 15 minutes, Mathias said.
